MARGARET A. McCONNON

Maggi McConnon died January 3, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She would not go until she celebrated her daughter Sarah’s 18th birthday. She passed away peacefully in her home.

Maggi’s life centered around her four children; Adam, Jessica, Erica and Sarah. They were the joy of her life and that joy was magnified when she was blessed with a grandson Tristan.

Maggi was survived by her Mother Mimi and her siblings; Regina, James, Kathleen, Michael, John and Joseph.

Maggi was passionate about her family, her God, and her service to others. She was a volunteer EMT in Mountainside, New Jersey and after her move to Flanders became a Firefighter/EMT with Roxbury Company 2. She furthered her commitment by acting as Department Secretary for all three companies.

Her compassion and will to help others was shown on March 23, 2001 en route to a hair appointment. She graciously pulled over onto the side of Route 80 to assist the Police Officers already on scene. To her surprise she was called to deliver beautiful Molly Margaret O’Brien at mile marker 34.

Her strength and strong will were again shown during the tragedy of 9-11. After being cleared by her doctors to resume “normal activity” the day before Maggi went without hesitation into Manhattan with Company 2. She walked the debris covered streets with a bandana on her head and determination in her heart.

Seven years later while training in a burn building Maggi was taken to the hospital after taking in smoke. At that time she learned that she again, would have to face another battle with cancer.

She fought for four years with the help and love of her children. Ultimately learning that “God was calling her to do His work”.

There are many more examples of her courage, will, and faith that can surely be added through personal message on this site.
