David E. Young, 88, of Long Valley, NJ passed away on September 14, 2017 at Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice in Fredon Twp., NJ surrounded by his family. Dave was born on February 23, 1929 in Pequannock, NJ to the late Emil and Gladys Young. He lived in Lake Hiawatha, NJ before moving to Long Valley 54 years ago.
Dave was a proud Veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was a talented Mason and Contractor who built his own home 54 years ago along with many others in the area. Dave worked for the Washington Twp. Board of Ed. for 24 years following his retirement from construction. He was a trustee of the Drakestown United Methodist Church in Hackettstown. Dave was a member of the Military Transport Association of Northern NJ, and Redball Military Transport Club, and he also restored a few military vehicles of his own.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia Ann (Hulbert) Young; two daughters, Pamela Young, and Sheri Jo Young; granddaughter, Sherri Christine Young-Prisco and her husband Dominic; two brothers, Richard, and George; his son-in-law, Richard Sierski; and many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Ann; and by four siblings, Eugene, Dorothy, Donald, and Robert.
Dave’s Life Celebration will include on visiting from 2-4PM & 7-9PM on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090, 15 Furnace Road, Chester, NJ 07930. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30AM at the Drakestown United Methodist Church in Hackettstown. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Hackettstown.
