Toby Barkman, 75, of Long Valley, NJ passed away on October 24, 2017 surrounded by his family. Toby was born on July 24, 1942 in Morristown, NJ to the late Ralph and Mildred Barkman. He grew up in Chester and has lived in Washington Twp. For 44 years.
Toby graduated from Roxbury HS and later attended East Stroudsburg University. He received a Master’s Degree from Montclair State University and became a teacher and coach at Roxbury HS for 11 years. In 1979 he started Toby Barkman Excavating in Long Valley and it is still family owned and operated 38 years later. He was an avid golfer and member of Hawk Pointe Golf Club, and inductee to several athletic halls of fame at Roxbury, East Stroudsburg, and Long Valley.
Toby is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Peachy (Stigliano) Barkman; three children, Dawn Siegrist and husband Matt, Heidi Prudente and husband Bob, Tobin Barkman and wife Kristen; two nephews, Frank Gualtieri, and Marc Gualtieri and wife Angela; seven grandchildren; Danielle, Amber, Trevor, Kristen, Logan, Alexa and Brooke; brother, Peter Barkman; and by many other loving family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Deanne Barkman.
Toby’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Friday October 27, 2017 from 4PM- 8PM at St. Luke Parish, 265 W. Mill Rd., Long Valley, NJ 07853. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 10:30AM at St. Luke’s. Interment will be held privately by the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
