Joel Santiago Wein, 82, of Long Valley, NJ passed away peacefully on March 24, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Joel was born in New York, NY on September 4, 1935 to the late Louis V. Wein and Rosita (Mesqueue) Wein. He graduated from George Washington High School in Washington Heights and then served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. After proudly serving his country, Joel received his Bachelor's Degree from Fordham University and later earned his MPA from NYU. He worked as an associate news producer for NBC and CBS, and most recently as the President of the Better Business Bureau of Northern New Jersey. Joel was a true "Renaissance Man" – he was a talented gourmet chef, enjoyed traveling, wine collecting, gardening, and listening to classical music. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his six grandchildren.
Joel is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Byrne) Wein; two devoted children, Thomas Andrew Wein, and Katherine "KC" Collins; six cherished grandchildren, Megan Wein, Sean Collins, Carly Wein, Julia Wein, Evan Wein, and Brian Collins; two siblings, Louis Wein, and Diana McCarthy; and by many other loving family members and friends.
Joel's Life Celebration will include a visitation from 3-5pm & 7-9pm on Monday March 26, 2018 at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206) Chester, NJ 07930. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Tuesday March 27, 2018 at St. Luke RC Parish, 265 West Mill Rd., Long Valley, NJ 07853. Interment will be held privately by the family.
