George Joseph Contrino was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1943 and passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 1, 2019 surrounded by Family and Friends.
A longtime resident of Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan (Warntz) Contrino, together for 57 years; his son George Contrino and wife Kelly, son Gregory Contrino and his wife Susan, and his adored Granddaughter Charley.
George started working for his Dad at an early age, learning the basic skills of business that would forever shape his life. After attending Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, N.J he used that knowledge, from his Father, to help him excel in the corporate world. His career began with a modest sales position with Beech Nut Baby Food having many management positions within the company. After Beech Nut was acquired by Nestle, through his hard work and dedication, George was promoted to Vice President of sales and Marketing, as well as becoming an active member of the Grocery Manufacturer Association. Several years later, George embarked on the next transition in his career with Mr. Coffee, as Vice President of sales and marketing. In 1988 he retired from corporate life and George and his wife Susan opened two prosperous retail stores in Flemington, The Mulberry Tree and Hollyhocks & Ivy.
George had an incredible love for his family and closest friends, especially his Granddaughter Charley his pride and joy. He was known for telling stories of the past with vigor and impactful wisdom, not only to entertain but also to teach as his father to him.
We will all miss him and never forget him.
George’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Monday, October 7, 2019 from 4:00pm -8:00pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Rd. (corner of Rt. 206) Chester, NJ 07930. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday October 8th at 11:00AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
