Kerry John McElwain, 60, of Chester, NJ passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Hackettstown Medical Center. Kerry was born on April 7, 1960 in Santa Monica, California. In addition to California, he was a 15-year resident of Chester and previously lived in Maryland and Africa. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland at College Park and Master’s degree of Public Health from Cavendish University in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa. Kerry had a deep love for Jesus Christ and actively spread His word throughout his life. Kerry was involved with campus ministries and spent time getting to know and encouraging people at convalescence and recovery facilities. Kerry was Born Again in Spring, 1982 - thank you Jesus. Studying the Bible and proselytizing was his passion. Kerry’s interest included international travel, architecture and skyscrapers, aviation, and the medical field. He had visited many countries and the one that touched his heart the most is Zambia. He would give his all to people in need and genuinely cared for people and animals. Kerry is survived by his parents, Gordon and Patricia, his siblings, Kim Nytes and husband Jeff and their children Gordon (and wife Aimee and son Joshua) and Patrick, Kirk McElwain and wife Amy, and Kelly McElwain and daughter Ananda. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30pm on Monday, July 6, 2020 at St. Lawrence Church, 375 Main Street, Chester, NJ. The church does require everyone entering to please wear a mask. Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, be kind, help people in need, and love God. This is what Kerry would want. Jesus Saves!
