Obituary of Peter Rhinesmith
Peter E. Rhinesmith, 79, of Budd Lake, NJ passed away on March 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Peter was born in East Orange, NJ on Christmas Day in 1938 to the late James Rhinesmith and Helen (Geney) Rhinesmith. He lived in Watchung, NJ before moving to Budd Lake 44 years ago. Peter served in the US Navy from 1962-1963 and later worked as an Engineer for Honeywell and Universal. He was an Eagle Scout and former Boy Scout Executive and loved everything about the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, canoeing, hiking, and camping. Peter was very active in the Flanders United Methodist Church where he worshiped and taught Sunday School.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Virginia “Ginger” (McMickle) Rhinesmith; two children, Timothy Rhinesmith, and Leah Rhinesmith; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Richard C. Rhinesmith and wife Rose; step-son Tony Bontemps; and by many other loving family members and friends.
Peter’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Friday March 30, 2018 from 5PM-8PM at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090 15 Furnace Road (corner of Route 206) Chester, NJ 07930. A Funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home at 9AM on Saturday March 31, 2018. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be may to the Visiting Nurses Association of Northern NJ, 175 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960 or to the MS Society- New Jersey Metro Chapter, Aspen Corporate Park 1, 1480 U.S. Highway 9 North, Suite 301, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
