Obituary of Mary Oppel
Mary C. Oppel, 94, of Toms River, NJ passed away on October 4, 2018. Mary was born on March 11, 1924 in her home in New Vernon, NJ to the late Edwin and Annie Harrison. She lived in Mendham, NJ for many years before moving to Toms River in 2001. Mary worked in the Meat Department at the Foodtown in Mendham for 20 years, and was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion(Chester post 342) and the Mendham Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department. She was an avid bowler and once bowled a perfect game in league play.
Mary is survived by her three devoted children, Lawrence E. Oppel and wife Linda, Frances C. Oppel, and Lynn D. Hickey and husband John; thirteen grandchildren; and many great & great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth O.; and by her son Kenneth A..
Mary's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Tuesday October 9, 2018 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090, 15 Furnace Road (corner of rt. 206), Chester, NJ 07930. Interment will be held privately by the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bernay's Apgar American Legion Post 342, PO Box 342, Chester, NJ or to the Mendham Fire Department, 24 East Main Street, Mendham, NJ 07945.
