Obituary of Judith M Jensen

Judith “Judi” M. Jensen, 58, of Long Valley, NJ passed away on December 10, 2018 in New York City, NY, after a 13 year hard fought battle with cancer.  Judi was born on June 9, 1960 in Perth Amboy, NJ and grew up in Devon and Berwyn, PA.  She graduated from Conestoga High School where she was a Cheerleader and played Lacrosse. Judi was a graduate of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, a standout Lacrosse player and met her future husband Jim. Judi and Jim were married at Springton Manor in Glenmoore PA in 1990.  She has lived in Long Valley, NJ for the past 19 years and previously lived in Chester, NJ.

Following her college graduation, Judi began a career in retail, at which she excelled. Judi left a senior position with Macy's in New York City upon realizing her true calling and became a computer and technology teacher for Bedwell Elementary School in Bernardsville, NJ.  Affectionally called “Mrs. J” by her students, she was beloved by everyone that knew her.  Mrs. J treasured her roll as a teacher at Bedwell almost 20 years and was proud of the relationships she built and the students she helped mold.  Her ability to inspire and engage each student was rewarded as she was a 2-time “Teacher of the Year” award winner.

Judi was a shining light for anyone that met her.  Her favorite place was the beach where Judi felt at peace. She especially loved to visit the Outer Banks of NC and Isle of Palms, SC. She enjoyed walking on the beach and relaxing under her tiki umbrella with her mother.  Most of all, Judi liked spending time with her family and friends, and her son Andy meant more to her than anything.

Judi, Jim and Andy had many exciting travel adventures. One of Judi’s highlights was when she caught a 253-pound Halibut while in Alaska visiting her sister Patti.

She was a huge University of South Carolina fan – Andy’s Alma Mater. As a family, they cheered on the Gamecocks while attending the Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden in 2017

Judi is survived by her husband of 28 years, James Jensen, her son, James “Andy” Jensen, her mother, Adele Roche, her sister, Patti Roche Ames, her brothers, Bill and Larry Roche, 9 loving nieces and nephews: Casey Roche, Jamie Roche, Jordan Roche, Kelly Roche, Annie Qiancong Jensen-Morgan, Olive Yusang Jensen-Morgan, Eyob Randall Jensen-Morgan, Matilda Vern Jensen, and Francis Lucille Jensen and of course her beloved Shetland Sheepdogs, Danny and Mikey.  She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence Roche and her brother, Jim Roche.

A Celebration of Judi’s Life will include a memorial gathering on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090.  A 2pm funeral service will be held on Monday, December 17 at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1 E Oak St, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.  The final interment will be held privately by the family.
