Obituary of James L. Reitwiesner
James "Jim" L. Reitwiesner, 70, of Estling Lake in Denville, NJ passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 Jim was born on August 15, 1948 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Leonard and Mary (nee McNally). He spent the last 15 years in Estling Lake but most of his life in Union City, NJ. Estling Lake was a special place for Jim, spending summers there as a child through his entire life.
Jim attended Emerson High School in Union City, received undergraduate degree from Dominican College in Orangetown, NY, and his masters from Florida State University.
Jim initially worked for the Commission of the Blind as an education counselor at Hagerdorn Health Facility and then later as a supervisor at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital.
Jim was very athletic his entire life and loved sports. In 1960, he played on the CYO State Basketball Championship Team. He was on the Emerson High School basketball team and played on the 1965-66 Hudson County Championship Team. Jim was also the captain and member of the Emerson High School Tennis 1964-65 North Hudson Championship Team. He received the Scholar Athlete Award at Dominican College. Jim also continued to play tennis his entire life.
Jim was a devout Catholic and involved in many church activities. He was a lector at Saints Joseph and Michael Church in Union City and other churches he attended. Jim was the president of the Hudson County Right to Life from 1982-2002.
Jim is survived by his brother, Robert Reitwiesner and wife Maureen, his nieces, Courtney Hollinger and husband Scott and Lauren Boeckenstedt and husband Barry, his grandnieces, Faith and Feherty, and many loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will include a visitation on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from 3pm to 7pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (Corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ. A 10am funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 17 at St. Lawrence Church, 375 Main Street, Chester, NJ. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, https://donate3.cancer.org/.
