Obituary of David Andrew Gidich

David Andrew Gidich of Randolph passed away Saturday January 4, 2020 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 70 years old. David was born and raised in Elyria Ohio and went on to study at Cleveland State University, where he was a member of their basketball team and on a full scholarship. David moved on from Ohio to pursue a life in Randolph NJ, where for 42 years he served as an educator, an active parishioner & a hands on family man. Prior to his retirement in 2015, he was the principal of Woodland Elementary School in Morristown, the past superintendent of the Boonton Township School System and also principal within the Montclair School District. As an educator for over 45 years, his love for the growth and development of children was his true passion. David even managed to coach the high school basketball team where he taught in Beachwood Ohio, refereed CYO games and coached the teams of his own children. David was a parishioner and very active member of St. Matthew the Apostle Church in Randolph where he acted as social committee coordinator, Pre-Cana advisor & Eucharistic Minister. David was a beloved husband to Donna Gidich. Dear brother of Teresa Szymen and Phillip, Dennis and Bernie Gidich. Devoted father of Kathleen Hall and her husband Aric, Zachary Gidich and his wife Casey, Jacob Gidich and his wife Camille and Allison Gidich. Devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren: Benjamin, Elise, Mackenzie, Cozette, Zachary, Luke and Nolan. He enjoyed having his toes in the sand at LBI with his family, making his grandchildren laugh, playing pickleball and painting with watercolors. Please join us as we celebrate his incredible life on Wednesday January 8 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road, Chester. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday January 9th at 11:AM at St. Matthews the Apostle Church in Randolph. Cremation will be private. David was taken from us too soon due to an aggressive 4-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering can be made (giving.mskcc.org) in an effort to find a cure for this horrible disease and keep our loved ones with us.
