Obituary of Robert Malanga

Robert Malanga, P.E.; LONG VALLEY, NJ - Robert Malanga, 57, devoted husband, father, and son passed away peacefully at his home in Long Valley on January 13, 2020, surrounded by his family, following a two-year battle with cancer. Robert is survived by his wife: Sheri, son: Reno, daughter: Alyssia and his mother, Filomena Malanga (nee: Mecca) and a long list of cousins of the Mecca family. Predeceased by his father, Nazzareno Michael Malanga and mother-in-law: Myrna Klepesch and niece: Megan Gregory. Surviving family members also include, his father-in-law: Sidney Klepesch and sister and brother-in-law, Marci and Scott Gregory of Rockaway, nephews: Max, Michael, his wife Ashley and their son Mason. Born in Passaic, NJ. He graduated from Pope Pius XII High School, and Maryland University, and received a master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He lived in Long Valley since 1990. In 1998, he established and founded Fire & Risk Engineering, a successful private fire protection engineering and risk management consulting firm. Areas of expertise included: Forensic Fire/Explosion Analysis and Litigation Support, Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems, Evaluation and Management of Risk; and, Codes, Standards, Regulations, and Master Planning. Professional Affiliations include: National Academy of Forensic Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, American Society for Testing and Materials and International Association of Arson Investigators. Robert also was a regular parishioner, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and ardent supporter, at the St. Luke's Parish in Long Valley. He loved spending quality time with family and friends. Other interests included a variety of restoration projects, motorcycle riding and was an active member of the R.O.A.R. chapter of The Christian Motorcycle Association. He also organized and coordinated scenic motorcycle rides to benefit the Special Needs Ministry at St. Luke’s Parish. Wake services will be held from 4-8pm Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Luke’s Parish, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, January 18, 2020 at St. Luke’s Parish. Interment will follow in Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Robert's honor to St. Luke’s Special Needs Ministry 265 W. Mill Rd.
