Obituary of Richard J. Bonannella

Richard Joseph Bonannella, 76, of Budd Lake, NJ passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his family. Richard was born on July 29, 1943 in Newcomerstown, OH to the late Gene and Mary Bonannella. He graduated from Kearny High School in 1961 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1961-1965. After his time in the service, Richard attended and graduated from the Newark College of Engineering, now known as NJIT. He had a long successful career as an HVAC Design Engineer and Salesman. After retiring from Air Group in Whippany, he continued to do consulting until very recently. To know Richard was to love him. Everyone he met would become a friend. He had a kind and generous spirit that could capture any room or conversation. He was strong in faith and very involved as a parishioner at St. Jude RC Church in Budd Lake. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, church choir, and on the building and maintenance board. He was also an active member of the Stedwick Village homeowners association and his Kearny High School Reunion Committee. Richard was a huge fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees. One of his favorite things to do while traveling from job to job was to stop at every diner along the way. He always enjoyed a good meal, and whenever he would overindulge he would say “It’s only a little” Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Laurice (Bender) Bonannella; his adoring sister Bonnie DiSilvestro and husband Bob; four devoted children, Jason Kline and wife Nancy, Amber Campitelli and husband Rob, Allison Janz and husband Chris, and Gene Bonannella and wife Emery; nine loving grandchildren, Dillon, Zoie, Gionni, Miranda, Patrick, Lilliana, Colin, Gaetano, and Julia; one cherished great-granddaughter, Gabriella; and by many other family members and friends.
