Obituary of James R. Konyak

James R. Konyak, 80, of Netcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday February 29, 2020 surrounded by his family. Born August 17, 1939 in Wharton, James Konyak lived an extraordinary life. From his earliest days, Jim loved music and spent his childhood and teen years playing in local bands and music groups. He was a 1957 graduate of Netcong High School and he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Marie, and built their life in the very neighborhood they grew up in. Together, they would be married 49 years and have three children, Phyllis Ann Konyak of Stewartsville, NJ (daughters Katherine and Kristin and late son Kyle James), Christine Konyak-Parker of Greensboro, NC (husband Douglas and daughter Hannah Liu ) and James Jeffrey Konyak of New Tripoli, PA (wife Nicole, daughter Kaylee and son Ethan). Jim worked for more than 40 years in the apparel industry having traveled the world many times over as the Chief Operating Officer of the Warnaco Group in New York City, establishing sourcing for several successful brands including Christian Dior, Hathaway, Puritan, Chaps, and Geoffrey Beene. In 1994 he started Kayak International Soft-Wear creating performance apparel solutions for kayakers and adventurists across North America. Jim was a true renaissance man of his time whose hobbies included music, kayaking, the beach, carpentry, sailing, playing games, exploring his faith and spending time with his beautiful family. Jim is survived by his three children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (Peyton, Aiden, Amelia, Paisley). He is also survived by his brother, John Konyak, of Netcong, NJ. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's Life Celebration of Thursday March 5 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road, Chester (908-879-3090). A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 6 at 10:00AM at St. Michael RC Church in Netcong. All are invited to meet directly at church. Jim will be laid to rest next to his late wife Ann Marie following mass in the Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mt. Olive Township.
