Marlene Scott

Obituary of Marlene B. Scott

Marlene Baluyut Scott, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 25, 2020 in Andover, NJ. She was 80 years old. Marlene was born in Manila, Philippines to Juan A. and Josephine B. Baluyut on September 3, 1939. She was one of 7 children. One of her many remarkable qualities was her exceptional intelligence, which was marked with her early completion of school at 14 yrs old. She graduated with a chemistry degree from Mapua University. She spent a few years as a college professor, where she met and married her first husband, Glicerio Remo. Together, they created a family with 4 children. She was then recruited and immigrated to the United States, where she worked most of her career as a Microbiologist in the pharmaceutical industry, primarily at Penick Corporation and CPC International. She retired as an QA/QC Auditor for Barr Laboratories, auditing other pharma throughout the nation. But to infer that her impressive career defined her successful life would be inaccurate. Family was her focal point and pinnacle of all her accomplishments. She worked a lot and didn't drive initially, which never deterred her thirst for fun, music and adventure. Memories of train/bus rides to see Yankee games, Statue of Liberty and Pt. Pleasant Beach, even after working 60+ hours/week in the laboratory, paved her children's determination that their children will never have limitations either. Her ambitious drive, exhausting work ethic, tenacious spirit and exceptional intellect was an inspiration to all who knew her. She met and married the love of her life Donald Scott and spent 19 years together, before he passed in 2011. She is survived by her devoted children: Glicerio Remo Jr., Glenda Jinks, Geraldine Perez, Grandee Remo and their spouses. Her life was blessed with 9 loving grandchildren: Alexis Remo, Nicole Remo, Paolo Remo, Dylan Perez, Elizabeth Perez, Drew Perez, Gabrielle Remo, Olivianna Remo and Isabella Remo. She leaves behind 2 caring siblings: Charminia B. Banal and Johnny N. Baluyut Jr, in addition to a multitude of nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday March 7, 2020 at St. Bernards of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow immediately after the service. A private, family burial will be conducted at a later date.
