Obituary of Michael F. Griffin

Michael F. Griffin, 80, of the Brookfield section of Belvidere, NJ passed away on Tuesday, April 14, peacefully. Michael was born on October 1, 1939 in County Clare, Ireland and came to the United States in 1960. Michael lived in Belvidere for the last 14 years and previously in Mount Olive for 29 years. He received his associate's degree from St. Mary's College in Toddington, England. After arriving in the United States Michael served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He then enjoyed a long career as an operating engineer with Local 68 Union in Caldwell, NJ. Michael will be remembered for his kind and calm demeanor and his mild-mannered disposition. He was proud of his Irish heritage, he was a member and past president of the Irish American Association of North West Jersey, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and was the Grand Marshall of the Morris County St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2002. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the Giblin Association. Michael was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching the New York Rangers, and coached Mount Olive Soccer for 15 years. Michael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Una, his children, Nancy McCarthy and husband Hugh, Sharon Griffin, and Michael Griffin and wife Melissa, his grandchildren, Siobhan, Elizabeth, Pierce, Aubrey, Emma and Logan, his siblings, P.J., Martin, Mary Donnellan, and Tommy, and many nieces, nephews and friends. All services will be held privately by the family. A memorial mass celebrating Michael's life will be held at a future date.
