Richard Kral

Obituary of Richard George Kral

Richard “Rick” George Kral, 51, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 after a courageous battle with ALS.  Rick was born on November 29, 1969 in Hackensack, NJ to the late George and Phyllis Kral, who recently passed away this year.  He was raised in Little Ferry, NJ and graduated from Bergen Catholic High School 1988.  He then attended Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.  Rick worked in the Hotel and Restaurant industry his entire adult life. He started out as a busboy, eventually working his way up to Executive Chef, and then to Food and Beverage Director. He has lived in Budd Lake for the past 20 years and was very involved in the community.

Rick was a 3rd generation firefighter and member of the Little Ferry Fire Department for 13 years, Budd Lake Fire Department for 20 years, and served as fire inspector for both towns. He held numerous positions including Chief, Assistant Chief, Lieutenant Captain, Recording Secretary, and Treasury Secretary.  He loved the camaraderie of being a firefighter and helping people.  Rick was known for his great sense of humor and was constantly busting people’s chops.  He had a love for sports, enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid New York Giants, Rangers, and Yankees fan. Rick will be remembered for his red pens, as he always had one with him everywhere he went. He will also be remembered for his love of “Win For Life” scratch offs, that his wife would try to take from him. We also cannot forget his fondness for hot pockets (even though he could cook a full gourmet meal).

Rick is survived by his daughter, Abigail, his wife and love of his life, Linda Weber, his siblings, Leeanne McLean (Chuck), Michael (Lynn), Scott (Donna), George Jr. (Allison), Steven (Preeti), Ryan (Sheryl), Tracy Ann O’Brien (Patrick), and Christopher (Angela), his Uncle and Godfather, Pete Smith, his Uncles and Aunts, John and Kathy Kral, and Howard and Norma Kral, 18 nieces and nephews, his Godchildren, Delany and Gianna, and millions of loving friends that will truly miss him.
