Obituary of Stephen John Mateychick
Stephen John Mateychick, 89, of Stanhope, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday May 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Stephen was born in Taylor, PA to the late John and Ann (Rickwalder) Mateychick. He grew up in Taylor and after graduating from high school, Stephen enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly from 1952-1954. After his time of service, Stephen settled in Stanhope, NJ where he raised his family and has lived the past 56 years. Stephen worked many years for the U.S. Postal service, mainly as a mail carrier in Succasunna, NJ. He was a member of the Stanhope American Legion, Post 278, and an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his two devoted children, Stephen M. Mateychick, and Michele Maksymo and her husband Michael; two cherished grandchildren, Tyler S. Mateychick, and Peri C. Maksymo; and by many other loving family members and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carmel Ann Mateychick in 2001; and in addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by seven siblings.
Stephen's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5pm – 7pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090, 15 Furnace Rd. (corner of Rt. 206) Chester, NJ 07930. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 7pm to conclude the visitation. Interment will be held privately by Stephen's family at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Covington Township, PA.
