Obituary of Dorothy W. Stephan Cleveland

Dorothy W. Stephan Cleveland, age 81, of Chester passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. Dorothy was born September 14, 1926 in Wrightstown, PA. She was the daughter of the late John and the late Savilla (Pritchitt) Whitesell. She lived in Long Valley prior to moving to Chester in 1985. She co-founded Stephan Farm Supply in Long Valley in 1972 with her late husband, George W. Stephan. Prior to that, she and George managed a dairy farm in Randolph from 1954-1972. Dorothy founded the Common Threads Quilters in 1993. She was honored with a one-woman quilt show at the Lebanon Township museum in 2003. On numerous occasions she donated baby quilts to a church in Louisiana for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. She was also the past president and treasurer of the Washington Township Historical Society and was a member of the Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Califon. She is survived by her husband of eleven years: George Cleveland, one daughter: Joanne E. Smith of Long Branch, NJ and one son: Lee Stephan of Sarasota, Florida; her brother, John Whitesell of Bedford, PA; her grandchildren, Karl and Bradford Smith. She is lso survived by 4 step-children and 7 step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 22nd , at 1:00pm at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Califon.
