Obituary of Lillian F. Godek
Lillian F. Godek, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes during the early morning hours of September 11th, 2009 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, Hackettstown, NJ. Born July 7,1919 at home in Bronx, NY to Lewis and Lillian (Schilling) Pless, she was baptized on October 19, 1919 at The Church of St. Augustine by the Rev. John Dyer with Elizabeth Loeble as sponsor. She graduated from high school in the Bronx, and then worked as a secretary and a long distance telephone operator. As a child and teen her summers were spent in Marlboro, NY on a family friend's farm where she learned to drive on a Model-A-Ford. Married to Walter L. Godek on October 27, 1946 at St. Simon Stock RC Church in Bronx, NY, she moved with Walter and their son, Walter Jr., to Hopatcong from the Bronx in 1957. She remained a homemaker and assisted her husband with clerical duties in his business as a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor. She was an active and loving grandparent to her grandchildren, Wendy and Jon. She was very proud of her cooking ability and remained very much engaged in family activities. At the age of 87 she moved with her husband, Walter, to Paragon Village in Mt. Olive. She was a parishioner of St. Jude RC Church, Hopatcong. Beloved wife of the late Walter L. Godek, devoted mother of Walter Godek Jr. of Hackettstown. Loving grandmother of Wendy Lynn Godek, of Brooklyn, NY and Jon Lawrence Godek of Hackettstown. Dear mother-in-law of Jan Godek of Long Valley, NJ. Dear sister of the late Gerard and Lewis Jr. Visiting for close friends and relatives of Lillian will be held on Tuesday, September 15th from 6 to 7:30 PM at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Rd., Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. Funeral services will be held at the home on Wednesday, September 16th at 10:00 AM. The funeral home will open at 9:30 AM the morning of the service. Interment will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mt. Olive Township. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 140 Littleton Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
